Tonight I was deciding which article would be most interesting to me, I stumbled across an article called “why  P&G CIO is quadrupling analytics expertise”, the title sparked my curiosity and I ended up learning many new things about the modern business place . The article is about how the CIO Philippo Passerini has plans the quadruple the size of his company staff, by adding new members whom are experts in business analytics. This is a strategic move happened at a time when P&G were cutting overall costs of the company by cutting 1600 non manufacturing jobs and the IT department has cut nearly $900 million in total spending over the past nine years.
Passerini states that these modifications are simply an attempt to keep the companies IT up to late with the latest business models. The old IT model required what knowledge was needed with the data to go along with it, then It would take days and sometimes weeks to deliver to the recipients. Passerini “envisions is something of a virtual, instant-on war room, where people huddle in person or by video around the needed data, pulling in the right experts to fix a problem the moment it arises”. His idea is to create a simpler way for executives to handle important decisions via an easy to use real time video system which provides instant data and feedback.
The idea of this video conferencing is not unique, it is a very practical concept, Passerini argues that when people can see one another, the communication has much more of an impact. And although these video platforms are already in use, the video system that a company uses may not be compatible with the system of another. Passerini realizes that this issue is a drawback to the usability of the video conferencing. He and his team are working on a video platform which allows any type of video system to be used on it in hopes that it will encourage the  use of video conferencing.

  1. I think this this an interesting article regarding P&G’s IT. This day in this age it’s important to stay on budget. P&G mentioned it was able to cut $900 million in spending. Using real time video, this helps save time, and solve problems much faster than ever. It also mentioned they were able to solve harder problems much faster. Before P&G IT models would take days before a problem could be resolved. Now it is much faster than before, with real time video. This also allows executives to make important decisions. This real -time video is great to because it allows instant feedback and data. This is important because we are so use to receiving instant data and feedback immediately, that wasting a few hours or days can really set a business back. I think this article regarding P&G sets a good example for other companies. This is an innovative technique and I think it shows results as in how the article mentioned.
