homework 6

The article that I read was titled “7 things CEO’s need to know about mobile commerce” and was published in Forbes Magazine. I found this article to be extremely informative and do agree that these are all points’ things that CEO’s should know going into the future.
The point that I found most interesting was the point about how “Normal people start buying from their smart phones”. The article began by introducing an app that Starbucks has for smart phones that allows its customers to keep track of their balance and even add money to their account when their balance is low. The app also allows the client to check their previous transactions and be sure that no one is using their account as well as just keep tabs on what they buy most.
Coffee isn’t the only thing that people are buying from their smart phones though. Recent reports have sown that “79% of smart phone owners reported using their smart phone to ‘assist of complete shopping’” which can be expected to up as it has for the past few years as consumers are able to do more and more on their smart phones.
As with most new technologies, mobile commerce has also had its fair share of negative quarrels. As it has become more and more popular to pay bills from mobile phones, it has also become more and more popular to take information of people’s mobile phones. One of the newest mobile apps for 2012 is Path. Path had come under scrutiny because they were found to be “accessing the phone address book and transferring that information from the phone to its servers”. Though they were found to fix the problem quick and efficiently, in just about an hour, it still raises an issue that these mobile apps can in fact impede on people’s privacy.
The entire move towards mobile commerce is a great move for today’s economy as well as the consumers. The only downfall is that people need to be sure to watch out for their privacy because as technology becomes more advanced so will the ways in which people try to get to your information.

  1. Mike I agree with your thoughts on this article. The world is becoming more and more based on technology every day. I believe that companies should focus more on advertising and such on mobile based websites since it has now been proven that on average more and more people are shopping off of their mobile devices and smart phones. This will most definitely be the new era, shopping on phones, because people live such busy life styles that if doing something when you have a lunch break or a few minutes is what you need, convenience is a big thing. I do agree with the statement that you said that people do need to be careful with what information they are putting on apps because of the simple fact that they may be able to access your private information on your phone. In time I believe that smart phone companies will make the phones harder to crack for the simple reason that people will be more into hacking phones if it is the latest and greatest thing people are using to buy items off of.
