HW #1

Bill Hurley

MIS

HW #1

Hello, my name is Bill Hurley. I’m from Halifax, Massachusetts and the only work experience I have had was for a construction company called Coastal Construction. Currently I am a sophomore here at Nichols. Along the lines of my major, I have chosen to double major in international business along with marketing with a minor in psychology. Some hobbies I enjoy are hanging out with friends, playing hockey, tennis, and skateboarding.

With my past job experience I have been working this job on a full time schedule for the past three years and it has been a summer job as well. It showed me basically all vocational trades that I could get involved with if there was a passion for it. But I mean I feel like that path wasn’t for me. Even though I enjoy that line of work I couldn’t picture myself doing it for my career. So, I decided to go into a more general aspect of those trades. Since every trade is needed by just about every major corporation for miscellaneous things such as expanding and keeping their businesses running to the potential that they should be why not be on the level where things are bigger.

With this course I plan to gain knowledge on how to effectively use technology to my own benefits in a business oriented way in my career. This is the backbone of every business I feel and with a strong backbone the rest of the body shall follow what has been set in motion. This also is correlative to the article that we were asked to discuss as well. As stated in the article, that as employment is expected to grow faster for all occupations with the new technology coming out will also lead to those employees requiring more knowledge. Having a backelor’s degree in a computer related field is usually required for management positions. This shows how much we now rely on technology today.
Hello all, my names Fred Willard and I am a sophomore here at Nichols College.  I currently live in REM 302 with four other soccer players and my boy Big-D.  I also play soccer here, and won our conference last year while making it to the finals this year.  I went to Douglas High School which helped me build the skill to get recruited here which my team went to the state finals as a senior.  I live in Webster with my one love Skylynn, who is my niece and of course my mother and father.  I also have a dog and cat ..oh and my grandmother lives with me as well.  A little about myself is that I love sports especially the Eagles, also I am a sucker for a brunette with blue eyes.  And Scotty Hoopz is my idol!  I hope to learn about computers and to enhance my computer skills.

I learned that the computer and information systems managers generally work in clean, comfortable offices. Long hours are common, and some may have to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines or solve unexpected problems; in 2008, about 25 percent worked more than 50 hours per week. Some computer and information systems managers may experience considerable pressure in meeting technical goals with short deadlines or tight budgets.  I was also so surprised how much money they made, and how fast the market is growing, because in ten years they are expected to make an additional $50,000, which is a 17%  raise in ten years.
Hola mi llamo Patrick Gaumond. I am a sophomore at Nichols College who's major is General Business. My place of stay on campus is REM 302. My hometown is Holden, MA and i went to highschool at Wachusett Regional. I enjoy long walks on the beach, late night movies, and fondue. I also love sports. Soccer and basketball are my two favorites, however i enjoy all.  I have two siblings and live with my mother. My father goes by the name of Jason and lives in Holden as well. I have a dog that is unfriendly and spends more time at my Grandmother's house. I look forward to this class because I want to learn more about computer software. Overall, I want to enhance my computer skills.

The article explains everything MIT workers have to do. It seems like a very difficult and stressful job. This is because they always have deadlines to meet. They also work a good amount of hours. in 2008, about 25 percent worked more than 50 hours per week. I found it fascinating how much they get paid.

Introduction

Hi my name is Maureen Lynch and I'm from Holbrook, MA. I'm a junior at Nichols College. I am a Sport Management major and a Math minor. I'm the goalie on the Women's Soccer team here. I love to work out when I’m not playing soccer because I think it is a good way to relieve my stress and keep in shape. I love playing and watching sports as well. I love all Boston teams however the Celtics are my favorite. When I was in high school, I was a referee for the youth basketball teams in my town as well as an umpire for youth softball. I also used to work at KB Toys at a mall near me before it went out of business. In the summer, I work at a summer camp at the YMCA in Stoughton which is a couple towns over from where I live. I love working there because I get to make a difference in kids’ lives. Seeing the kids smiling and having fun every day makes you want to go to work there and shows how much of an impact you actually have on them. Working at a camp all summer long seeing the same faces every day allows you to create friendships and teach them things that they will remember for the rest of their life. When I’m not playing soccer or working I like to hang out with my friends.

From taking this course I hope to learn more about information systems and how they work. I want to see how I can use different management systems in the future. I have never blogged before so I’m hoping that I will learn more about that through this class.

I am not that surprised after reading the article. More jobs are being created because technology is expanding so much. However, I was surprised that for management positions a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field is generally required. It did not really shock me at the hours a week managers have to work because of unexpected problems and trying to meet deadlines.

Ronnie Sinclair's Introduction

Hello everyone,

I am from Beverly, Massachusetts. I graduated from North Shore Community College in 2011 with my Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems. I transferred to Nichols College last semester to earn my Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Management. I have a 4.0 GPA and hope that I will be able to continue my success during my second semester at Nichols College.

I work as an Audio/Visual technician for Fischer Institute where I record the cultural events we host. This semester we're really going to change some things up. We're introducing Twitter as a integral part of our cultural events. Students will be able to ask questions, make comments, and start discussions using Twitter while the event happens. It will be my job to establish hash tags for each event, monitor the twitter feed, and control the Fischer Institute twitter. (By the way, if you have a twitter give us a follow: @FischerCultural). This is very interesting to me as no such job has ever existed through Fischer Institute before and I'll be the first to experiment with using social media to enhance our cultural events.

I spend my free time working on my website and studying Japanese. I have self-learned Japanese for approximately three years now and hope that one day I will have the opportunity to visit Japan.

I expect that this course will offer new insight into the Information Technology industry and I am very happy to be taking a class directly related to my field. I am already familiar with basic computer maintenance (hardware and software), application development (java and visual basic), website development (including web design with adobe photoshop, illustrator, and dreamweaver and website code such as HTML and CSS), and Computer Systems Development.

As I have already been learning about the Information Technology field prior to this class, I have already done a good amount of research on my field. As such, the reading really didn't provide any new or surprising information for me - although it is nice to see that Information Technology Management is a field in high demand and with high pay.

Cheers,

Ronnie Sinclair

What i hope to learn from this class is have a better of understanding of how technology works.

what i learned fron the article is that being IT specialist is a big thing and a needed job because there are companies that have valuable technology that they can afford to replace. also getting a degree in the field will take a while.

Introduction Homework

Hi my name is Alyssa Finn and I'm from Tewksbury Massachusetts. I am on the younger side for my grade considering I am 20 and don't turn 21 until the very end of August. I am a Junior here at Nichols College and unlike some people I really like this school. I believe that it is what you make it and with the right friends you can have a great experience here. I am a Criminal Justice major with a Psychology minor and I believe that I want to be a probation officer upon graduation. I did an internship with the Woburn Court House that is a few towns over from where I live and I really enjoyed it and it seemed to come naturally. I have had many jobs in the past, although nothing is related to what I am going to school for. In high school I worked at the local Planet Fitness in my town as front desk staff. After that job I worked at a hair dresser salon as front desk staff as well. Every summer for about the last four years I have worked at Gillette Stadium with the prodcution companies for all of the summer concerts. I usuaslly stay there for a week give or take and stay in a hotel since the stadium is an hour away from where I live. I get to do alot of cool things there such as set up dressing rooms, go food shopping for all the tour busses, and help the talent get anything that they need from our company such as "flow money" which is money that we lend them until the end of the show and then it is all settled when we go over the final settlement with the tour manager. As far as my hobbies go I love to shop! Shopping is one thing that my mother and I do as a bonding expereince, sometimes we do not even buy anything, but it has always been a special thing that we do together. I am very close with my family and love spending time with them. I actually just came back from Florida last Monday where I was with a bunch of my uncles, aunts, and cousins. From this course I hope that I can learn a basic overview of hardware, software, and network technologies. I probably will not ever need to use these very much considering the criminal justice world is actually very outdated on technology that they use, but I would like to have a basic knowledge incase I ever do need to use any of these items in my day to day life. After reading the article that was provided for us I was not really surprised. It talks about how the computer industry is rapidly growing which is leading to more jobs in that field as well. Every day they are coming up with new things in technology which leads to the nearly 300,000 jobs that were recorded in the year 2008.
