Apples harsh working conditions. HW 4

‘Ethical iPhone protests hit Apples Stores’

Protestors have gathered around the world to protest and release sign petitions. These petitions have about 200,000 signatures to petition Apple’s labor Laws. Change.org a social activism site has launched the petition. Created by Mark Shields. Mark had sparked interest in the assembly of his phone. He had searched online to come across a photo of an apple manufacturer. He was appalled of the conditions and was determined to make a change. Mark wants his message to get to Apple.  He is asking Apple to develop a ‘Worker Protection Strategy’. This would protect factory workers against the abuse that happens during ‘major deadlines’. Mark hopes that by making consumers and Apple aware of the conditions, change will be seen. This will improve factory conditions and overall ethical working conditions for employees. This particular article has a lot to do with flatteners. Outsourcing products to make them cheaper, faster and to mass- produce Apple products. This is apart of globalization. The US seems to outsource almost everything that we consume. We can even pick up a shirt and find that is has been made in Asia or somewhere other than the United States. This article also relates to articles we have read in class recently about Apples history and Ethical working conditions.

  1. Nobody is really aware that apple has had issues with labor laws. I think that people need to become aware of this issue, although Apple is such a successful comapany, they should not be able to get away with these extreme meaures. This article is interesting and I think that people should become more knowledgeable about working conditions.
