Cyber Attacks Becoming Top 10 Terror Threats.

The article I chose to read was called Cyber attacks becoming top 10 terror threats, published February 1st by information week. This article caught my attention right away because it says,” Hackers will one day outstrip terrorists as top threat to U.S., FBI director tells a Senate committee. Attacks predicted to become more complex and frequent.” This article basically talks about how the cyber attacks against the government agencies and business throughout the United States continue to grow rapidly. It is growing so rapidly that they expect it to the terrorism. Right now it is not their top worry, the FBI’s main focus is to stop terrorism but they do they say that down the road cyber attacks will definitely be number one. The interest in cyber security remains very high at this point by the house, senate, and congress and trying to make a movement. The only concern on this movement would be the price of the overall senate bill.  So this hearing for doing this will be within the next week or so. The sophistication on the internet with threats is a scary thing that people can hack into so many different things because everything is now done on the internet. Like for myself I pay my bills and online shop and it is very easy for hackers to steal your credit card numbers, social security numbers, and steal your identity or all your money. This is a huge concern for me, and I could definitely see why it is up and coming to be a number one threat to the United States. Technology is so powerful it is a scary thing; we even talked about in class how you can use a website to call someone and make it look like another number. This is only a website; imagine the millions of things hackers can do online and come up with, it is a scary thing. China and Russia are two of the biggest threats, and have enormous cyber capabilities; they are at the top of the list for cyber concern. The threats have been continuing to grow and will only get worse so I think we need to put a lot of attention to this matter and handle it the safest way.

  1. Kim,

I think you did a great job with the article. I knew that hackers were a problem, but I didn't know that they were this big of a problem. Of course the FBI main objective is to stop terrorism, which they have done a great job in doing, but your right they should deal with hackers more. I always hear on the news how hackers have hacked credit card systems at retail stores, and how they get peoples socials. I think that it’s really messed up that people would do that to other people. It is what it is though and we have to do a better way of protecting ourselves. You’re also right the FBI should focus on hackers a little bit more!

  2. Kim,

I agree completely with your views on cyber hacking, many people around the world depend on the Internet to do pretty much everything. Socializing, paying bills and shopping are just some of the millions of different ways people use the Internet. Pretty much any electronic can be hacked, the world record for hacking came to a man that hacked a woman’s cell-phone from 300 yards away in less then thirty seconds, getting phone numbers and stealing all she had (although, that was all set up by the police to show how easy it is to steal and hack any device). I also recently heard from a friend that his credit card number and password was stolen over the Internet and the man used over 55,000 dollars and also bought a car. These things are everyday occurrences so protecting yourself from people like that has become difficult, so to be honest the safest computer to use would be a Mac because virus/hackers have to break through a miniature firewall that is designed like the FBIs.

  3. Yeah I also agree with your views on hacking because so many people depend on their security in, on, and around the internet world that it makes it scary to think that hacking is becoming that big of an issue. So many people use the internet for things such as social networking, email, and banking. If I were to get hacked online then my life would pretty much get ruined because I have a lot of important stuff on the internet that I will probably take down now because of this article. I can see how it is possible for all of this kind of hacking to take place because of how large the internet world is but also how smart some people are and how they can take advantage of people who do not understand why or what they are doing on the internet. I believe that you need to protect yourself in life and if that means being smart about what you do on the internet and how you do it then that is something that one should think about more seriously.
