In the article http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/webmaster/article.php/3440221/Five-Steps-to-Better-Internet-Security.htm "Five Steps to Better internet Security" talks about how there are steps to changing the way we look at internet security and these are the five steps that they see as the most important. The five steps are "Set a Strong Internet-Use Policy, Install Centrally Managed Anti-virus Software, A Firewall with Intrusion Detection Capability, Install Host-Based Intrusion Detection, and Digital Signatures." I agree with these steps because every day millions of people use the internet in their everyday lives and if the internet was safer I believe that even more people would use it. The Internet is a very strong tool that many people take advantage of yet they don’t necessarily know the consequences of using some of the tolls on the internet. Hacking is one of the biggest crimes committed on a daily basis. If the Internet community as a whole were to look at these five steps and see how they can use them towards their sites it would allow people to surf the Internet and not have to worry about their lives being affected.

The article which was written by Lauren Simonds states that "Running a successful business today requires an Internet connection to the outside world; but as just about anyone can tell you, that essential connection also exposes your company to a world of security problems, liability risks and productivity distractions." This basically states how you need to be secure in your everyday life in order to have success. If people are trusting your site but their private information is not secure and is accessible to the everyday hacker then that is also putting yourself in danger as a owner of a business who uses a website as a business tool.

I believe that to be a successful business person you always need to take into consideration the privacy and protection of one’s business but more importantly one’s customers. Keeping a customer as a business person will save you 80% less work. It takes more to get new customers than it does to keep a customer. If your company can not keep their customers privacy information locked down so no one can get access to it then you will definitely see yourself losing customers. But if you can do these five steps to protect yourself as a business on the internet then you shouldn’t have a problem.

  1. I agree with your information. I believe that many people struggle with knowing what websites to trust and which ones not to trust as far as giving out private information. If people followed those five steps such as firewalls and digital signatures I believe that the internet would be a much more secure place to shop. Online signatures provide originality and are hard to duplicate since it is unique to every person. I also believe that if companies want to be successful in the future they need to make some changes and improvements to provide the best for their customers.

    1. I agree with what you are saying here Steve. Most people don't know that every website that you can visit might have a virus, trojan or cookies on them that can damage your computer/laptop. If people get the correct protection for them (i.e. Norton Anti Virus, McAfee) all you need to do is install these programs and they will scan your computer every day and protect you from hackers and other damaging things that are out on the internet.
