Cyber Attacks Becoming Top Terror Threat
Cyber
Attacks Becoming Top Terror Threat
What
this article is about, I the United States government trying to do everything
they can do in order to protect the United States online network. One of the articles big point were, that we should be as concerned
with an network attack as we are with terrorist bombs, and weapons. It also states that we shouldn’t be just
worried about other countries accessing the net work , but our own American people.
Another huge concern for the government, is other countries terrorist groups
gaining access to what can be lethal
United States Networks, such as weapons ,etc.
The
government is working very hard at trying to solve this problem. It is by no
means an easy task to accomplish because, there are no warnings that there’s
going to be a network attack or to find out what network they will attack. In
the article its states “The greatest
challenges to protecting against cyber threats, Clapper said, are the
difficulty of providing timely and actionable warning of attacks--he cautioned
that "many intrusions into U.S. networks are not being detected"--and
the complex vulnerabilities within the IT supply chain. Attribution remains a
difficult technical challenge, but the government is increasingly sharing
threat information among government agencies and with the private sector.” Like
the article said there is no knowing when, how and why there will be an attack.
The biggest threat to a cyber attack is the “not knowing” factor.
Also the
government is not saying that the threat of a cyber attack is the most
important threat to worry about , and we should put it on the top of our list
of things to worry about. In the article it states that “Cyber attacks against
government agencies and businesses in the United States continue to rise, and
cyber threats will one day surpass the danger of terrorism to the United States.
Stopping terrorists is the number one priority," said FBI director Robert
Mueller. "But down the road, the cyber threat will be the number one
threat to the country. I do not think today it is necessarily [the] number one
threat, but it will be tomorrow.” This shows the importance of how seriously
they are taking cyber attacks, and also showing the importance that it will
have in the future.
This
relates to class because we are learning all about how to protect our own
computers and the networks we use. And
by learning in class about the possibility of an attack on cyber network, you can
truly grasp the reason why the government is placing so much importance to this
matter
PS, To professor Lawson, Dont forget you told me you would accept this late because i emailed you and you didnt get back to me.
