M.I.S Homework 3

The article that I chose to read was called “For Mobile Commerce: The Year of Convergence and Context” written by John Caron which was published by Forbes magazine. In this particular article Mr. Caron talked about mobile-enabled e-commerce, and mobile commerce as well as the differences. Also in this article he discusses the differences with Convergence, and context. Then finally he sums up his article by discussing how mobile transactions is a great opportunity to attack the market because its rapidly growing as well as how retailers can engage in their consumers. I believed that this article was very interesting, and has pertained to ideas that we have talked about in class. For example I feel that this article has a lot to do with the flatteners that we discussed. In the article the author explained how some of the new technology worked; “If you buy a TV via your iPad, is that mobile commerce? In my opinion, no. Yes, a tablet is a “mobile” device, but the experience the purchaser had was with a tablet-optimized website. Ditto for the person who bought a Mercedes SLR via eBay mobile on their smartphone”. I feel that this has to do with the talks about outsourcing. When we use our mobile devices or new technology like ipads to buy from eBay we could be buying these products from India. Another thing discussed in class was the technology that was used in stop and shop called scan in it. This was also discussed in the article. I found this article very interesting because this article seemed to relate so much to the topics that we covered in class. This article seemed to really bring home the concept that we are very much in a technological world. Now a days we can do everything that we wanted online. In the article they gave an example of how a person used a Ebay application to buy a Mercedes-Benz for over two-hundred thousand dollars.  This article puts into perspective how much technology really effects are everyday lives.

  1. Dan, I agree with a lot of your analysis on this article and how it focuses on the nature of today's technology and flatteners. The fact that we can now use mobile devices such as ipods, ipads, and smart phones to be able to purchase products on websites like ebay is absolutely astounding. The quote you pulled from the article really put it into perspective even more. It is amazing the possibilities we now have with the technology that is all around us today.
