Homework # 3

“Online petition urges Apple to fix labor practices and to unleash ethical Iphone 5”

This article has been in the recent news. Consumers are concerned for the harsh conditions in which the iphone is made. Is this ethical? I feel that this is very unfortunate. Part of our world today is globalization. Unfortunatly this is a product that has been outsourced to be assembled inexpensively. I’ll admit it I am and have been an owner of an ipod, mac and recently the iphone and MacbookPro. I feel apple makes great products and they stand by them.  I was aware that they were assembled in China but I really didn’t think too much about it until hearing and reading stories in the news recently and including this article. In the article it mentions "A lot of their customers are people who want to feel like they are part of a sustainable economy, people who shop at farmers markets, who want to know they are supporting companies that are being responsible and are not hurting people,". I feel that this is true and many people are not realizing the reality behind this great company. The article states “The petition, which has received 47,000 signatures in two days, follows recent reports about dismal conditions inside Apple factories in Asia, where workers reportedly toil day and night in hazardous conditions to assemble iPads, iPhones and Mac products as swiftly as possible.” This is alarming and we as consumers need to advocate for these workers, find better ways to compensate them for the conditions they undergo to assemble product that is in high demand and company that is so successful. After all Apple is making tons of money
